Track Expects to Pay $1 Million

Share

Hollywood Park presented Rodolfo Sahagun, an unemployed farm worker from Carlsbad with an outsized replica of a check for $1 million Monday afternoon.

On Sunday, Sahagun had correctly picked all nine winners in Hollypark’s handicapping contest. After studying his card, however, Neil Papiano, an attorney for the Inglewood track, indicated the insurance company might raise objections since Sahagun’s card contained five erasures. Under the terms of the policy, if the front of the card was defaced in any manner, the money, to be paid in 20 installments of $50,000 each, would not be paid.

The claim was submitted Monday to Mutual of Rhode Island, and although no official statement was issued, Hollywood Park officials expected no problems with the winning ticket.
