A man who died when swept against the rocks while swimming in rough surf near Rocky Point on the Palos Verdes Peninsula was identified by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies as Juan Barrientos, 22, of Los Angeles. Sgt. Gary Coniglio of the Lomita Station said Barrientos and two friends crawled through a fence to get to a private beach. His friends pulled him out after his head was slammed against a rock, but he never regained consciousness, Coniglio said. The area is restricted to swimming.
