Soviet Ship Free of Ice, Heads for New Zealand

WELLINGTON, New Zealand —
The Soviet Antarctic supply ship Mikhail Somov was heading for New Zealand after being trapped in pack ice since March, a spokesman for the Soviet Embassy said Monday.
Spokesman Anatoly Ivanchishen told reporters that the Mikhail Somov and the icebreaker Vladivostok, which last week rescued the trapped ship, were making slow but steady progress through Antarctic waters south of New Zealand.
