Maureen Reagan, reporting on the outcome of the U.N. conference for women in Kenya, said today that she told her father so much about how well the meeting went that “he’s really sick of the subject.”

On a more personal note, she said that President Reagan is “doing terrific” following cancer surgery and that she brought him “a walking stick from Shannon (Ireland)” for long walks at his California ranch during his summer vacation instead of his usual routine of riding horses and chopping wood.

Maureen met with her father in the White House to report on the international conference on the U.N. Decade for Women, which wrapped up in Nairobi, Kenya, last week. She headed the U.S. delegation.

During her absence, Reagan underwent surgery July 13 for the removal of a cancerous polyp from a section of his colon.

The President leaves Aug. 11 for a three-week vacation at his mountaintop ranch at Santa Barbara, Calif., and his daughter said he will alter his routine.

“He’s doing terrific. I feel like I’ve been in a time warp because when I left I knew what he looked like and then I know what he’s been through and when I came back he looked the same and I felt like he hadn’t been away at all,” she said.

She added, “He’s already agreed that at the ranch he will take long walks rather than ride horses and clear brush and chop wood.”
