For Jackson, a Glove and a Bandage

Rock superstar Michael Jackson, whose trademark is a sequined glove on his left hand, sprained his right thumb Tuesday while shooting a scene for a Walt Disney movie in Culver City.

When the mishap occurred, a spokesman for the singer said, Jackson was working on a spaceship scene for a 12-minute, 3-D film called “Captain Eo” directed by Francis Ford Coppola at Laird International Studio in Culver City.

Dr. Steven M. Hoefflin, who treated the singer when his hair caught fire during filming of a Pepsi Cola commercial last year, ordered Jackson taken to Brotman Medical Center in Culver City for evaluation and treatment. Jackson was later released.

Cause of the accident was not immediately disclosed.

Shooting of the film, produced by George Lucas and intended for showing at Disney’s Epcot Center in Florida, was temporarily shut down after the accident. Davis said the singer should be ready to return to work in a day or two.
