The late artist Joan Miro’s widow has agreed to give the government 24 of her husband’s paintings in lieu of income taxes.

The paintings, which were done between 1935 and 1969, and 243 engravings will be turned over to Spain in a ceremony Thursday, said Minister of Culture Javier Solana after a meeting with Pilar Juncosa, the artist’s widow.

The works of the painter and sculptor, who died in December,1983, will be displayed to the public in September, Solana said.
