In the new policy, McDonnell Douglas said the Pentagon “can return any covered spare part or piece of support equipment if there is any dissatisfaction with its cost--no questions asked.” The unusual policy is part of a continuing effort to hold down prices of spare parts, the St. Louis-based aerospace firm said. The policy specifies that the Defense Department can return any unused part built by McDonnell within six months of delivery.
