The mayor of Stockton, Randall Ronk, has left his job but has appealed to the state Supreme Court to overturn his expulsion from office by the City Council. Last month the council voted to fire Ronk, claiming he had misappropriated nearly $3,000 by falsifying travel claims. Ronk admitted filing the false claims but said he used the money for a secret investigation of a fellow councilman. The council also ordered Ronk to repay the money, but a spokeswoman in the city manager’s office said Ronk has not yet done so. A Superior Court jury recently acquitted Ronk of 10 felony counts in connection with the case. Ronk has said he will run for reelection in November but, in the meantime, the remaining eight members of the City Council will choose someone to serve out his term, which ends late this year.
