Nelson Research Reports Net Loss of $523,002

Citing increased investments in its research and development program, Nelson Research & Development Co., of Irving reported a net loss of $523,002 for the second quarter of 1985, compared to a profit of $68,676 for the same period a year earlier.

Revenues for the second quarter totaled $860,278, compared with about $1 million for the same period in 1984.

For the first six months of 1985, Nelson Research reported a net loss of $951,255, compared to a net profit of $90,552 for the like period of 1984.

Half-year revenues totaled $1.7 million, down slightly from nearly $2 million for the first half of 1984.

Commenting on the company’s second quarter performance, Eric L. Nelson, company chairman and president, said increased operating expenses had been expected and were caused primarily by the costs of staffing and equipping the new Nelson Research Center, located on the campus of the University of California at Irvine.

Nelson said that since moving into the new center this past spring, the company embarked upon an expansion of its research and development activities. The center currently has a staff of 45 people.

The expanded program calls for research and development expenditures of $4 million in 1985 and $5 million in 1986.

Nelson Research & Development Co. designs and develops pharmaceutical products for license.
