The Producers Guild of America has voted to authorize its board to call a strike against Hollywood’s major studios. But the group, which has been seeking recognition as a labor union for the last 30 years, gave no indication when it might walk out. The guild, which recently affiliated with the Western Conference of the Teamsters, has argued that its members cannot receive pension and welfare plans like other Hollywood unions have because the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the group that represents the studios, considers those members to be supervisors.
