NEWMAN’S RACE
Denis Rouse of Agoura, reacting to the Jack Mathews interview with Paul Newman (“Newman’s Race for Privacy,” July 24), pathetically believes that “were it not for the adoring fans,” Paul Newman would probably be washing cars and not racing them (Calendar Letters, Aug. 4). Rubbish!
To quote Humphrey Bogart: “An actor owes the public nothing except a good performance.”
