Four Mountaineers’ Bodies Recovered
Rescuers using helicopters recovered the bodies of four mountaineers who died when a sudden cold wave hit the Alpine region, authorities said. A fifth climber was reported missing.
The victims included two Italians who were trapped by a freak heavy snowfall on their way to the 14,180-foot Dufour Peak, officials said.
Two Frenchmen were found dead in the region of the Jungfrau in the Bernese Oberland. Police said their wives had joined them on part of the climb Monday but then returned to their hotel.
Officials said there was still no trace of a German missing in the Matterhorn region since Monday.
