Soviet television Friday showed Kremlin chief Mikhail S. Gorbachev dressed in shirt- sleeves at a Black Sea children’s holiday camp in a broadcast that showed he was continuing a traditon of his predecessors by taking his vacation in the Crimea.

The announcer said Gorbachev, 54, attended an anniversary festival at the giant “Artek” camp in the Crimea accompanied by French Communist Party chief Georges Marchais and other foreign guests.

Gorbachev’s predecessors used to spend their summer holidays in the Crimea and meet informally with foreign visitors, but there had been no official word until Friday whether he would continue the tradition.
