The Italian branch of Interpol, the international police agency, asked the Costa Rican government on Monday for help in tracing 22 fugitive left-wing guerrillas reported to be in Nicaragua, the national news agency ANSA said.

The request followed a broadcast by a Costa Rican radio station, “Radio Impacto,” in which a list of 22 Italians wanted for urban guerrilla crimes and said to be living in Nicaragua was read out, the agency said.

The radio station said the list was provided by a former member who recently renounced the left-wing extremist group.

The list included what the Italian press has described as leading members of the Red Brigades and other well-known left-wing guerrilla groups.
