ANTITHESES

If ever worlds collided, it was during last week’s taping of ABC’s “All-Star Spectacular,” an hour special (to run Sept. 15 at 8 p.m.) hyping the network’s new season.

As eight silver-sequined “Love Boat Mermaids” (new dancers on Aaron Spelling’s long-sailing show) bumped, ground and strutted their amply displayed stuff on a “Love Boat” setting, Marie Osmond--the antithesis of T&A; (and new co-host of “Ripley’s Believe It or Not”)--danced into their midst, singing ABC’s version of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.”

A lyric sampling: “Home at last / Turn on the TV / Just let the magic come and carry you away / It’s as easy as ABC.”

A spokeswoman for Newman pronounced him “very pleased” with ABC’s rewrite, which also advises viewers, “You’ll love the action / The laughter, too / You’ll love the way they do the things no one else can do / They got the spirit / We’re gonna catch it tonight.”
