‘Greylord’ Judge Gets 12 Years
The highest-ranking judge charged in the federal Operation Greylord investigation of corruption in the Cook County courts was sentenced today to 12 years in prison for taking bribes and fixing traffic cases.
Cook County Judge Richard LeFevour, 54, was convicted last month on 59 counts of mail fraud, racketeering and income-tax violations. During his trial, prosecutors said he had peddled justice “like it was apples” and “spent money like a drunken sailor.” U.S. District Judge Charles R. Norgle Sr. announced the sentence after denying LeFevour’s request for a new trial. LeFevour could have been sentenced to up to 300 years in prison and fined $103,000.
