American Businessphones Inc. said it signed its largest contract to date, an agreement with Lloyds Bank for purchase, installation and service of a telephone system for the bank’s 90 California branches.

Value of the agreement was not disclosed, but Frank Feitz, president and chairman of the Irvine telephone system company, said that about 900 instruments would be sold to Lloyds.

American Businessphones was founded in 1980 and specializes in providing telephone systems for small-to-medium sized businesses. Its phones, which are manufactured by TIE Communications Inc. of Shelton, Conn., feature “programmed calling patterns,” which can automatically choose the least expensive method to dial a long-distance call, or can also restrict calling areas for specific instruments.
