1,740 Japan Centenarians

TOKYO —
Japan claims not only the world’s oldest living person but more than 1,700 centenarians as well. Shigechiyo Izumi, 120, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest person, is just one of 1,740 Japanese aged 100 or older, the Health and Welfare Ministry said Tuesday.
