Thatcher Traveling to Mideast Next Week
British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher will make official visits next week to Egypt and Jordan.
A statement issued by her office said Thatcher will spend Sept. 16-18 in Cairo as the guest of President Hosni Mubarak and then go on to on Amman Sept. 18-20 as the guest of King Hussein.
Thatcher’s trip to Cairo will be the first by a British prime minister since Winston Churchill was there during World War II.
Diplomatic sources said her talks will likely cover the general situation in the Mideast and, specifically, efforts to reach a comprehensive Arab-Israeli settlement.
