Border Patrol Stakeout Leads to Arrest of 115 as Suspected Aliens

U.S. Border Patrol Wednesday arrested 115 undocumented aliens along the Riverside Freeway in the Corona area after receiving tips that large numbers were working in construction and landscaping crews.

Ron Barbeau, agent in charge of the Temecula Station of the patrol, said a routine traffic stakeout along the freeway between the Coal Canyon Road and Green River Road exits led to the arrest of the workers, most of whom “opted for voluntary departure to Mexico” later Wednesday.

“We’ve been getting a lot of reports of illegals working in the Corona area, where a lot of construction and landscaping is going on. We figured we could get them going to work,” Barbeau said.

One van attempted to flee the Border Patrol, but after a five-mile chase and “a little maneuvering,” Barbeau said, the van containing 15 aliens was stopped, and the driver, Felipe Medina Dominguez, 25, was arrested on charges of transporting undocumented aliens.

Dominguez is being held pending arraignment in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in San Diego.
