38 Hurt as Turbulence Jolts Japanese Airliner

A Japan Air Lines jumbo jet was severely jolted by air turbulence during a flight from Tokyo to Honolulu Wednesday, injuring 38 passengers and crew members, officials said.

Three women were hospitalized here, two with broken bones. The other victims, 30 passengers and five flight attendants, were treated and released. The Boeing 747 carried 336 persons.

The plane incurred no structural damage and arrived on time three hours later.
