A small amount of a raw petrochemical ingredient leaked from equipment in a Union Carbide Corp. plant in South Charleston, W.Va., but the spill was quickly brought under control and “there was no impact on workers or anyone else,” a company spokesman said. Police said the plant reported that about 100 pounds of mono methyl amine had escaped from a faulty safety valve, but the substance was contained within about 10 minutes. It was the seventh industrial leak reported in West Virginia’s “chemical valley” within last five weeks.
