Construction is under way on a $7.5-million, 112-unit apartment complex at 1030 Tiverton Ave., Westwood Village, according to the developers, R. W. Selby & Co., Brentwood.

The project is being built on the site of the 14-unit El Greco apartment complex, designated a cultural historic monument by the city of Los Angeles in 1981.

In an agreement reached with the office of Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky, the Selby firm agreed to donate the old building to Alternative Living for the Aging Inc., a nonprofit corporation that assists in providing housing for senior citizens.

A spokeswoman for Alternative Living said that the El Greco complex will be rebuilt as a 12-unit project in the Fairfax district. A separate source said that the address is 817 Hayworth Ave., a block west of Fairfax Avenue near Melrose Avenue.

Completion is expected in the fall of 1986 for the seven-level wood-frame-and-stucco elevator building on Tiverton. It will have three levels of underground parking and feature 450-square-foot, studio apartment units, with rents starting at $700 a month.

The architect is Samuel Wacht Associates of West Los Angeles. The general contractor is Victor R. Behar Construction Co. Inc., also of West Los Angeles.
