A North Hollywood man suffering from lung cancer pleaded guilty in San Fernando Municipal Court Tuesday to two counts of child molestation.

Robert Loomis, 57, a former product quality controller for a Los Angeles knitting mill, pleaded guilty to molesting a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old boy who lived near his home in North Hollywood.

The two boys had asked Loomis if they could swim in a pond in his yard in October, 1984, Deputy Dist. Atty. Kenneth Loveman said. Loomis offered to give the boys a candy bar if they would take off their swimming trunks and molested them when they went into his house to dry off after their swim, Loveman said.

A preliminary hearing for Loomis was delayed almost a year because the accused began receiving chemotherapy treatments and underwent surgery to remove a lung after his cancer was diagnosed in December, 1984, court records showed.

Loomis, who faces as much as 10 years in prison, is to be sentenced in San Fernando Superior Court on Oct. 22.
