Early Vote Shows Sales Tax Losing in Oregon
United Press International
PORTLAND, Ore. —
Oregon voters on Tuesday were soundly defeating a 5% state sales tax that had the support of the Democrat-controlled legislature and the Republican governor.
Early returns showed the tax failing by a margin of 73% to 27%.
If the tax loses, it would be the seventh time since 1933 that Oregonians have rejected a sales tax, which has never received more than 29% of the vote.
