An exhibition of sculpture by Eileen Senner might be titled “Homage to Moby Dick.”

Long, bowed slivers that swell at the center and taper to pointed ends, these fetishistic pieces put one in mind of whale bones and harpoons. Carved out of some secret mixed-media recipe that creates the texture of stone, the work looks as though it was created by nature rather than man. Perhaps dredged up from the bowels of the earth or shaped by centuries of wind and erosion, the work has a rough appearance. However, close inspection reveals a finely detailed surface patterned with flecks of gold leaf, gradations of muted color and patches of green oxidation or rust. They’re queer, primitive objects that resonate with the inexplicable voodoo power of a dowsing rod. (Newspace, 5241 Melrose Ave., to Oct. 5.)
