WASHINGTON —
A record 49.5% of all U.S. women with children under age 3 have jobs or are looking for work, up from one-third in 1975, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
For women whose youngest children were between the ages of 3 and 5, the labor force participation rate was 59.5%, up from 45% a decade earlier, the department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics said.
The number of mothers in the labor force with children under age 6 hit a record 8.2 million in March, up 200,000 from 12 months earlier.
