‘On Behalf of Medical Science’

Thanks for your editorial. It’s about time someone recognized the lack of legislation for combining the needs of researchers for laboratory animals and also the needs of laboratory animals for humane treatment.

I strongly agree with you that the success of proposed laws “hinges” on the selection of laboratory inspectors” who will have to judge animal use objectively, not emotionally.

I believe excessive cruelty to research animals should be prevented whenever possible. But, I hope we never forget the many cures of medical science that would have not been possible if it weren’t for research animals.
