Two German Churches Move Toward Unity

FRANKFURT, West Germany —
West German Old Catholics and Protestants of the Evangelical Church in Germany and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany have agreed to “eucharistic fellowship,” sharing in Holy Communion.
Church officials called it “an important ecumenical step.” The Old Catholic Church broke away from Roman Catholicism to protest its 1870 promulgation of the doctrine of papal infallibility.
