Sen. John East (R-N. C.), who said last week that he would not seek reelection in 1986, has been hospitalized for a urinary-tract ailment, it was reported Monday. He was reported to be in stable condition.
East, 54, who was admitted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, said in a newspaper interview that he had no plans to resign from the Senate. He had been treated for a urinary-tract infection earlier this year, and also was hospitalized for a thyroid disorder.
