Convicted murderer-rapist William Archie Fain, 40, who was paroled from prison two years ago despite a storm of public protest, was seized by two San Jose residents who said they caught him peeping into their neighbor’s bedroom window. Fain, who has been working as a roofer, was turned over to police and booked for investigation of peeping and prowling. Fain spent nearly 16 years in prison for the 1967 murder of a high school student and rape of three young women in Stanislaus County. He was sentenced to death, but an appeals court overturned that sentence because of a jury selection error.
