Reagan to Ban Krugerrands

WASHINGTON —
The Reagan Administration has formally decided to ban the importation of krugerrand gold coins as part of a package of sanctions against white-ruled South Africa, congressional sources said today.
President Reagan said earlier this month that he would consult about a possible ban with America’s trading partners under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. The sources said that procedure has been completed, freeing the Administration to make its formal announcement.
