Four SCATs Gymnasts in Top Eight After Compulsories of World Trials

Sabrina Mar, a Monterey Park gymnast who trains with the Southern California Acro Team (SCATs) in Huntington Beach, ranks first in the all-around competition after compulsory exercises Thursday in the World Championship Team Gymnastic Trials at St. Paul, Minn.

Mar, 15, has a score of 37.25 after the first day of the two-day competition, which concludes with optional routines Saturday. She is one of four SCATs gymnasts to rank among the top eight competitors after Thursday.

Of the 26 athletes competing, the top eight will make the U.S. World Championship team, which will compete in the World Gymnastic Championships at Montreal Nov. 5-10.

Marie Roethlisberger, a 19-year-old from Huntington Beach, is currently fourth with a score of 36.25. Two SCATs athletes are tied for seventh--Pam Bileck, 16, of Huntington Beach and Jennifer Ferreira, 15, of Long Beach--with scores of 35.85.
