Jim Karsatos passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Ohio State to a 48-32 victory over Washington State Saturday.

Karsatos, a 6-3, 215-pound junior from Fullerton, completed 18 of 24 passes for 228 yards.

Junior John Wooldridge, subbing for injured All-America tailback Keith Byars, ran for 103 yards in 20 carries and fullback George Cooper had 74 yards in 16 carries. Byars has missed Ohio State’s first three games with a broken right foot.

Ohio State (3-0) scored four second-quarter touchdowns--three of them coming in just under three minutes.

The Buckeyes, trailing 14-7, put together an 80-yard, 6-play drive, capped by a 31-yard pass from Karsatos to Mike Lanese, to tie the score.

Two minutes later, Karsatos passed to tight end Ed Taggart for a 17-yard touchdown. That score, which put the Buckeyes ahead, 21-14, was set up by a pass interception by Sonny Gordon at the Washington State 24.

The Buckeyes made it 28-14 just 57 seconds later on Karsatos’ seven-yard touchdown run after William White recovered a fumble by Rueben Mayes on the WSU 14.

The next Ohio State touchdown came on a 49-yard, 5-play drive. At the Cougar 26, split end Cris Carter took a pitchout and then hit Lanese with a 26-yard touchdown pass.

Washington State is 1-4.
