67 Poisonings Linked to Forklift
Los Angeles County health officials said today that they believe that exhaust fumes from a forklift caused the carbon monoxide poisoning of 67 employees of a food-processing plant near downtown.
While none of the employees of Galletti Brothers Foods, on East 21st Street near Long Beach Avenue, were seriously injured, 25 of them were transported to area hospitals late Sunday for treatment, said Larry Ford, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. Forty-two employees were treated at the scene.
