Existing-home sales rose in California last month.

The California Assn. of Realtors reported that existing single-family home sales in August increased to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 431,819 units. This figure represents an increase of 0.9% from July’s sales rate of 428,020 units and a jump of 14.3% from the August, 1984, level of 377,794 units. August’s pace exceeds the second-quarter average of 428,147 units. The 100,000-member real estate association said sales in August reached the second-highest rate this year and the third-highest volume since 1981.
