More than half the original 400 million California Lottery tickets are easier to tamper with than had been intended because of a mistake by the supplier, but they will still be honored in the first game that begins this week, lottery security chief Lew Ritter announced. Ritter said he had rebuked the supplier, Georgia-based Scientific Games Inc., for having omitted a special yellow dye from 240 million of the tickets. That dye in the green overprint ink concealing the scratch-off portion of the ticket is intended to change color if anyone tries to use a chemical to see the symbols concealed underneath.
