Bar Mitzvah

Share

It was exciting to see the front-page attention you gave (Sept. 8) to the bar mitzvah of Eric Strom in Poland, the country where the worst bigotry and genocide against Jews has ever been perpetrated.

My excitement turned to disgust as I read your description of Rabbi Nahum Elbaum’s attempt to stop Emily Korzenik, also a rabbi, from participating in the ceremony. If Rabbi Elbaum was offended by a woman participating in the ceremony, he should have stayed home. How sick and sad that the victim has become the bigot. Rabbi Elbaum should have rejoiced in Korzenik’s attempts to teach the religion and culture that the Poles and Germans nearly decimated.

Mazel tov, Eric! Shame on you, Rabbi Elbaum!
