The California Department of Transportation is expected to start advertising next month for bids to construct a $10.6-million interchange for the Century Freeway at Long Beach Boulevard in Lynwood. Funds were recently allocated for the project by the California Transportation Commission.
Work on the Long Beach Boulevard interchange could start in February and could take 13 months to complete, according to Thomas Knox, Caltrans public information officer.
The interchange is one of 85 separate projects planned for the $1.6-billion Century Freeway. Construction on the 17.5-mile route, which started in May, 1982, is now 10% complete, Knox said. The freeway, which stretches from Norwalk to Los Angeles International Airport, is scheduled for completion by mid-1993.
