St. Anthony’s High School in Long Beach...

St. Anthony’s High School in Long Beach will inaugurate a Hall of Fame and induct four alumni during a ceremony Oct. 9 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Long Beach. The charter inductees to the school hall of fame are Lt. Gen. Ernest C. Cheatham Jr., one of the Marine Corps’ highest-ranking generals and currently deputy chief of staff for manpower; Michael J. Choppin, president and chairman of the board of IDM Corp.; John Olszewski, a former professional football player who also once served as Long Beach’s chief lifeguard; and Rep. Daniel E. Lungren (R-Long Beach).

S. T. and Dorothy Ziler of Downey will be honored Saturday at the 10th anniversary Charter Ball sponsored by the Memorial Trust Foundation, the fund-raising arm of Downey Community Hospital. S. T. Ziler has been a member of the hospital board of directors since 1964 and of the foundation board of trustees since its inception 10 years ago. The ball will be at the Century Plaza Hotel in Century City.

Denise Branch, 10, of Downey won first prize at the Los Angeles County Fair Student Expo for her model of the San Gabriel Mission. The competition was among fourth graders throughout the county. Branch, now a fifth grader at Downey’s Imperial Elementary School, made her 16-inch-high model out of a cardboard box, stucco and brick, said her mother, Katie Branch.

Compton resident Henry Herriford has been appointed by Supervisor Deane Dana to the Los Angeles County Adult Day Health Planning Council. Herriford, a retired musician who worked in the motion picture industry, has been active in Boy Scouts, Y’s Men’s Club of Compton, senior citizen organizations and, for the past 13 years, on the Compton Development Committee.

Queen City Bank Vice President Patt Patterson has been elected president of the harbor area chapter of the National Assn. of Bank Women. Other association officers for 1985-86 are Dawn N. Seeley-Ruiz of Coast Bank in Long Beach, vice president; Adrienne Goff of South Bay Bank in Torrance, treasurer; and Teri Travis of Union Bank in Long Beach, secretary.

James P. Hall of Norwalk, representing Cal Poly Pomona, has won the A. E. Marshall Award $200 second prize in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers annual design contest. Hall won with a proposed solution to a design problem for a styrene monomer plant. His winning solution will be published in Chemical Engineering Progress and the chemical engineering student annual report. Hall is married, the father of two children and works at a Torrance chemical plant since earning a chemical engineering degree at Cal Poly Pomona in June.

Whittier College has appointed Donald Stewart to be director of communications, responsible for campus publications, the college speakers bureau, and media and community relations. Stewart is a former free-lance writer from Houston. He has a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University and a master’s degree from Stanford University, both in English literature.

Nelson Hinchee, president of the Compton Chamber of Commerce and a resident of Rolling Hills Estates, has been appointed to the Los Angeles County Auto Insurance Task Force. Hinchee owns a meter service company.
