Sgt. Bob Dotts, supervisor of the Riverside County sheriff’s patrols in Norco, will soon leave that post to head a group of investigators in the sheriff’s detective division, Chief Deputy Roger Denman said Wednesday.

No replacement has been named, and no date set for Dotts’ transfer, but Denman said he expects to complete the reassignments in two or three weeks.

Besides supervising 11 deputies assigned to patrol the city, Dotts has acted as liaison between the Sheriff’s Department and the City of Norco, which contracts with Riverside County for police protection.

“It’s a step up for him, and we’re very pleased,” said John Donlevy, Norco’s city manager. “ . . . We hope the work he has done here helped him get the new position. He’s an outstanding guy, and I expect he’s being looked at for a lieutenant’s spot.”

Dotts, a 10-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, has held the Norco post for 18 months. He previously served at the Indio Jail and in the sheriff’s personnel and Riverside patrol divisions.
