Several buildings in a village on the troubled Mediterranean island of Corsica were seriously damaged by bomb attacks early Wednesday, police said.

They said at least five bombs exploded during the night in different parts of Terra Bella village, three miles south of Ajaccio, causing extensive damage but no injuries.

Nobody claimed responsibility for the blasts, but police said they suspect that the outlawed Corsican National Liberation Front planted the bombs.

The front has been waging a violent campaign for independence for the island from mainland France.
