MASTER CHORALE, ORCHESTRA WILL BEGIN 22ND MUSIC CENTER SEASON

The 22nd season of Music Center concerts by the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Sinfonia Orchestra will begin Nov. 9 with a program titled “St. Mark’s & Mozart.”

At this opening, the organizations’ founder-music director, Roger Wagner, will conduct antiphonal music for brass and chorus, the Music Center premiere of Morton Lauridsen’s “Mid-Winter Songs” and Mozart’s Mass in C minor.

The Master Chorale and Sinfonia Orchestra will then continue their season with three performances of a Christmas program (Dec. 13, 14 and 15) and three performances of a “Messiah” Sing-Along (Dec. 20, 21 and 22). Roger Wagner will conduct all six performances.

Guest conductor William Hall will lead a program devoted to two works, Antonio Salieri’s Requiem and Mozart’s Solemn Vespers, at the Jan. 11 concert. On Feb. 8, Roger Wagner will return for a program titled “Broadway!” scheduled for 2 and 8 p.m.

Feb. 15, guest conductor Paul Salamunovich will lead a program called “Valentines” and consisting of Brahms’ “Liebeslieder” Waltzes, Dominick Argento’s “I Hate and I Love” and Carl Nielsen’s “Hymnus Amoris.” Guest conductor Paul Hill will lead the March 15 concert, a program devoted to Vivaldi’s “Beatus Vir,” Vincent Persichetti’s “Flower Songs,” an excerpt from Rossini’s “Petite Messe Solenelle” and Cherubini’s C-minor Requiem.

The season will end April 19 at 8 p.m., when Wagner will conclude his final season as music director of the twin organizations with a performance of Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis.”
