Local News in Brief : Neighbors Settle With Condo Builder

Share

Two Thousand Oaks homeowners who complained that their views and privacy had been destroyed by an adjacent condominium project have reached settlements with the developer.

The full terms of the settlements were not disclosed, but one of the homeowners, Suzanne Carver, said the developer will build a six-foot wall in her backyard.

Carver’s family and another in Cambria View Estate reached the agreements with developer John Ashkar, according to Charles Cohen, an attorney for the second family. Ashkar built their homes and is building the Northoaks condominium project that prompted the controversy.

A third homeowner has reached a tentative settlement with the developer, a family member said Thursday.

Five homeowners had complained that, when they bought their houses, they were misled by sales agents as to the location of the 114-unit condominium project. In one case, a four-unit building came to within 15 feet of a family’s backyard.

The two other homeowners have filed lawsuits against the developer.

Ashkar has contended that the homeowners were fully informed about where the condominiums were to be built.
