Typhoon Causes Slides, Flooding in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan —
Typhoon Brenda sideswiped Taiwan on Friday, causing floods and landslides, disrupting transport and bringing down a ceremonial arch in central Taipei. Two people were injured and four cars damaged when the temporary arch in front of the presidential palace collapsed in gusty winds.
The typhoon also caused cancellation of all domestic flights, partially disrupted railway and highway traffic and triggered landslides in eastern and northern Taiwan.
