A former General Motors Corp. automobile assembly plant on 90 acres at 2700 Tweedy Blvd., South Gate, has been offered to the city at a price of $15 million, contingent upon the city finding a third party purchaser for the 2-million-square-foot facility.

Under terms of the agreement, negotiated by Argonaut Realty (the real estate division of General Motors), South Gate has until Dec. 31 to find a redeveloper or user of the site, which was used by General Motors from the early 1930s until 1982.

Cushman & Wakefield has been engaged by General Motors to help the city find prospective purchasers.

The city would like to develop the site industrially or commercially as a single- or multiple-user development. It is being called the “largest manufacturing facility currently offered in Southern California.”
