Ford and AMC matched GM’s discount financing.

The two auto makers said they will offer 8.8% loans on a limited number of models. Ford will offer the loans primarily on models that compete with the small-car lines covered by GM’s program announced earlier in the week. The program, which expires Nov. 22, covers 1985 and 1986 Ford Escort and Tempo models and Mercury Lynx and Topaz lines. It also covers 1986 Ranger light pickups and Bronco II utility vehicles. AMC said it will offer the discount only on its 1986 Renault Alliances and Encores. Its financing program ends Nov. 20.
