Rio Hondo
To speed the search for library book titles and authors, Rio Hondo College has installed a $250,000 computerized card catalogue. Money for the automated system took three years to raise, with most of it coming from private individuals and companies in the Rio Hondo enrollment area near Whittier and Pico Rivera. The biggest donor was the college’s Associated Student Body, which contributed $140,000.
While the traditional card catalogue will remain as a backup, the computerized system will allow library users to find books by punching a keyboard and reading a computer screen. The new system should be operational by next spring. The library is open to students and the general public.
