‘Postponed’
As one who has worked for more than 40 years in the struggle to secure the civil and religious rights of all persons and groups, I have come to regard the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith as a giant among allies. I was, therefore, appalled to read in The Times (Sept. 27) that the league in Orange County has “postponed” an invitation for Tom Bradley to be honored at its dinner in late October.
The Anti-Defamation League was right in selecting Mayor Bradley as an honoree. He is a man of integrity and lifelong commitment to the human and civil rights of all people. If the honor was “postponed” because, in one rather minor incident Bradley did not bend to pressure to change his position, that is wrong, and an act of cowardice not worthy of the league.
The mayor made his position quite clear on the recent incident. His actions through the years have made it also clear that he stands for the freedoms of all.
Let’s keep things in perspective.
