Louisiana Power & Light won a rate increase.

A state judge overruled the state’s Public Service Commission and ordered an immediate $113.9-million rate increase so the utility can pay its bills for the Grand Gulf nuclear power plant. District Judge Leo Higgenbotham told the company to put the higher rate into effect at once, saying the PSC had been arbitrary and capricious in refusing to grant it earlier. Still pending before the PSC is a separate request for an increase to pay for the utility’s $2.7-billion Waterford 3 nuclear plant, now in operation at Taft.
